Field of application of functional safety according to EN ISO 13849 in hydraulic systems

EN ISO 13849 provides safety requirements and guidance on the principles for the design and integration of safety-related parts of control systems. In general, a control system consists of an input module (sensory system), a logic unit, and an output module (control block). The individual modules can be regarded as sub-systems enabling better limitation of technology transit.

As the machine manufacturer, you are responsible for the entire safety function. For each sub-system, a performance level (PL) or mean probability of failure (PFHd value) can be determined.
The overall probability of failure can be calculated by adding the PFHd values of the sub-systems.
